Grant Programs for Scientific Projects in the Field of Cystic Fibrosis (CF)
Mukoviszidose e.V. provides funding exclusively for projects in the sector of CF contributing significantly to patient-relevant therapeutic progress. This includes research translating findings from basic CF-related research into the development of specific diagnostic or therapeutic applications (translational research), preclinical development projects and clinical research. Funding of basic science without any application perspective is not within the scope of the funding scheme.
We actively encourage cooperation between basic-research scientists and clinicians in developing new diagnostic and therapeutic options.
Grant programs available are: Focus funding in special subject areas, startup support and young-investigator grants.
Special subject areas are:
- Clinical trials to improve diagnosis and therapy of chronic infections of the respiratory tract, of disturbances in growth and development and of related secondary diseases (e.g. diabetes, osteoporosis, liver complaints)
- Compensation of the basic defect by way of substances that reinforce the residual function of CFTR and/or regulate alternative ion channels
- Development of new anti-infective and antiinflammatory drugs
- Development of animal models
The grant program was revised and is now adapted to the needs in research:
- The young-investigator grants offer funding of a postgraduate, post-doc or young clinician and will be available for up to 3 years.
- Applications for “Small projects” (max 20.000 €) can be submitted with lower time and effort regarding the application.
For more information on special subject areas please see the application manual “Notes for Applicants” on our web page.
The total amount of financial support for new applications for a two year period (2011 to 2013) will be 2.0 million Euro.
The evaluation process for applications is administered by Mukoviszidose Institute gGmbH (MI), Bonn, the research and development arm of the German Cystic Fibrosis Association Mukoviszidose e.V. and consists of two steps:
