31 March 2010

The ECFS and the Clinical Trials Network (CTN) have organized an active and successful “consensus conference on outcome parameters in cystic fibrosis”.

The main goal of the consensus is to establish a document reflecting a European agreement on aspects of cystic fibrosis outcome parameters for use in clinical trials.

Different working groups (inflammatory markers, respiratory function, nutritional evaluation, microbiology, imaging and CFTR function) were setup in the Autumn of 2009, and they were able to present their preparatory work on March 19-20th at the consensus conference in Venice, Italy. Clinimetrics and feasibility parameters were assessed for the different parameters in a standardized way, first in single group sessions and then discussed in an open plenary session.

Experts from the TDN reference centers in US also joined the working groups to ensure global interaction. In addition delegates from different pharmaceutical companies and 2 patient representatives attended the meeting and their input was greatly appreciated.

Our grateful thanks to the following companies who supported the Consensus meeting:

 Bayer HealthCare  Chiesi Farmaceutica  Gilead
 Aradigm  Inspire  Vectura Ltd
 Mpex  Vertex
