Submissions: General Instructions
- Case Presentations must be submitted in English
- Case Presentations are to be submitted no later than: 22 February 2010
- Case Presentations are to be submitted using the electronic online system – no other submission medium may be used.
As part of the online submission process, corresponding authors are responsible for:
- Accepting that, once submitted, a case cannot be modified or corrected.
- Acknowledging that the contents of the case have not been published prior to the date of submission.
- Confirming awareness that Case Presentations will not be published in the Journal of Cystic Fibrosis.
- Ensuring that all authors of the submitted Case Presentation have agreed to have the case submitted.
- Completing a Conflict of Interest Disclosure Statement:
A conflict of interest is defined as the existence of any significant financial interest or other relationship with the manufacturer(s) of any commercial product(s) discussed in an educational presentation. Corresponding authors will need to indicate whether or not there is a conflict of interest relative to their submitted abstract.
Online Abstract Submission
Each step of the online abstract submission process is accompanied with instructions. Please read these carefully as you navigate through the different steps.
- Corresponding Author: Corresponding authors are required to create a user account prior to submitting a case. Thereafter a user name and password will be used for entering the system.
- Maximum Characters: The abstract body may be no longer than 3,500 characters, including spaces. The electronic system allows for the submission of tables, however please be aware that each row of a table will deduct 50 characters from the total available for your case.
- Case Presentation Titles should be in Title Case: This Title Is Written In Title Case.
- Authors: Authors’ names are to be entered with a first name and second name and corresponding affiliation. The system will automatically select the initial of the First Name and add a comma between names if there is more than one author. The system will also automatically add a subscript reference to the appropriate affiliation.
- Affiliations: The system will automatically add a subscript reference to the appropriate author.
- Spacing: The abstract body is to be single line spaced.
- Abbreviations: Standard abbreviations are acceptable. Any special abbreviations should be given in parenthesis after the first appearance of the full word or phrase for which it stands.
Revisions to case presentations after the submission deadline (22 February 2010 23:59:59 Central European Time) will not be permitted. Please proof read your case presentation carefully before submitting it.
Only completed, submitted abstracts will be eligible for review. Abstracts remaining in the system as “drafts” after the submission deadline will be discarded. An international team appointed by the 33rd ECFS Scientific Committee will review the case presentations for acceptance or rejection and their decision is final.
Physiotherapy Case Presentations
On 18 June 2010, the International Physiotherapy Group will hold a session featuring case presentations. Deadline for sumission: 22 February 2010.
Submissions should include an interesting or unusual case which raises an issue for debate. All case presentations are to be submitted on-line - no other submission medium may be used.
Format for presentations:
Time: 10-15 minutes
Each case presentation should address the following:
- Background: Provide patient characteristics, family support, social setting and other relevant information.
- Patient Problems: Outline current clinical problems in relation to the patient's long term condition.
- Clinical course of the illness: Describe and include relevant results of tests, for example lung function, exercise tolerance tests, oximetry, arterial blood gases, sputum cultures, etc.
- Treatment: Document physiotherapy, medical, nutritional, psychosocial and nursing management as relevant to the case.
- Discussion: Issues, dilemmas and questions raised by the case. Include patient family and members of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Conclusion: Clearly define the main question/s raised by the case for discussion in the session (this should be the final slide to promote the case discussion).
Discussion/Audience participation: Patho-physiology, management, problems, issues, future research, questions and conclusions.
An award of Euro 250 will be made for the most interesting case.

Grand Rounds in Pulmonary Disease
Case Presentations are invited for Symposium 7 to be held on Thursday 17 June 2010
Deadline for submission: 22 February 2010.
All case presentations are to be submitted on-line - no other submission medium may be used.
Five selected cases will be selected for this Symposium. The submissions should include an interesting case involving a pulmonary (associated) clinical problem. These presentations are ideal for fellows or trainees in paediatric respiratory medicine or similar fields, however consultants are also welcome to present interesting cases which present diagnostic challenges.
An award of Euro 250 will be made for the most interesting case.

GI Case Presentations
Case Presentations are invited for Workshop 12 to be held on Friday 18 June 2010
Deadline for submission: 22 February 2010.
All case presentations are to be submitted online - no other submission medium may be used.
Four to six case reports will be selected for this Gastrointestinal Workshop. The selected cases should include rare, interesting or difficult presentations of cystic fibrosis, which will raise an issue for debate. Clinical fellows are particularly encouraged to present at this session.
An award of Euro 250 will be made for the most interesting case.

Psychosocial and Nursing: Complex case presentations
Case Presentations are invited for Workshop 20 to be held on Friday 18 June 2010
Deadline for submission: 22 February 2010.
All case presentations are to be submitted on-line - no other submission medium may be used.
Four to six case presentations will be selected for the Psychosocial/Nursing Workshop. The submission should include a difficult and interesting case which raises an issue for debate and discussion.
An award of Euro 250 will be made for the most interesting case.
