Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is a great pleasure to invite you to the 33rd European Cystic Fibrosis Conference, which will take place at the Valencia Conference Centre, an ultra-modern facility designed by Sir Norman Foster.

The objective of this conference is to provide a forum for the discussion of the best basic and applied science, and facilitate translation of the latest knowledge into daily clinical practice. The programme will reflect these priorities and bring together scientific clinical teams. A high quality programme is planned with international leaders to give plenary and symposia lectures.

We will provide a social platform and a great opportunity for networking. The local organising committee is proud to host this scientific conference in Valencia, an ancient Mediterranean city that offers today a modern façade with impressive architecture, gardens, and museums. The Mediterranean Sea bathes the beach and the port, with one of the world’s largest marinas, home of the last America’s Cup, and of the Formula 1 Street Circuit.

Valencians are friendly people, proud of their profoundly Mediterranean culture. Valencia’s cuisine has its most popular dish, paella, as an emblem, but proposes also a wide variety of dishes and a profusion of wines. Arts and music are in the centre of our life, and musical events are organised all year long in two state-of-the-art facilities, the Palau de les Arts (Opera House, Calatrava 2006) and the Palau de la Música.

When you come to Valencia you will find a formidable conference venue, and several nearby excellent hotels. As an alternative you may lodge at one of the many hotels in the old city or by the sea.

We encourage you to come to Valencia next June 2010 and participate in the 33rd European Cystic Fibrosis Conference.

The ECFS is very grateful to our sponsors

In 2010 it will be 17 years since the 18th European Cystic Fibrosis Conference was held in Madrid.

A lot has happened during these years for Cystic Fibrosis, thanks to the dedication and hard work of all involved in CF care and research.

A conference always gives a chance to share knowledge, interests and hopes, and we are confident that the 2010 Conference will be a wonderful opportunity for all to network.

We are delighted to welcome the conference back to Spain, this time in the unique city of Valencia.

Come enjoy the lively, booming, hospitable Mediterranean city of Valencia. The cheerful personality of its people, and the beauty of its ancient streets full of history will surely make Valencia contribute to your satisfaction of having learned, met interesting people, and enjoyed for a few days something that will remain in your memories, and will make you want to come back.

It is a great pleasure, on behalf of the Spanish Cystic Fibrosis Society and the Spanish Federation of Cystic Fibrosis, to warmly welcome you again to our country for the 33rd European Cystic Fibrosis Conference.

We wish you a very fruitful Conference, and hope you will enjoy your stay in Valencia and Spain.

Welcome to Valencia

Valencia is situated on an inlet of the Mediterranean Sea known as the Gulf of Valencia. Surrounded by orange groves and rice fields, with approximately 300 sunny days a year this area reflects the typical picture of Spain.

Valencia is the third-largest city in Spain with about 800,600 inhabitants. The city’s 2000 years of history combines the architecture of the Middle Ages with the very modern and vanguard buildings erected in the new millennium.

City of Arts and Sciences One major architectural ‘must see’ attraction is the City of Arts and Sciences. This futuristic and imaginative complex, built in the former bed of the river Turia, was designed by the famous Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava.
Besides modern architecture, Valencia also has a totally stunning and compact historic town centre full of gorgeous monuments, historic sights, squares, gardens, museums, art galleries and charming little streets.   Valencia Old City
 Valencia Beach

Thanks to the special location of the city, Valencia offers an opportunity to quickly reach white sandy beaches, unspoilt mountain villages or the Albufera nature reserve.

These contrasts of historic and modern sites, urban life and surrounding nature, make Valencia more than worth a visit.
